WoV #1 - The convoy

First battle of the Wolf of Vengeance campaign. After Game Zero, this is the first official battle report of the whole series.

Originally we wanted to report the various games in the chronological order we played them. Thinking about in-game logic, this would not always be the effective order the main characters would manage their movements. However, years passed and our project remained a draft: so, this series of pic showcases and battle reports serve more as a diary of our campaign than a precise narration of the events, and Rhobar's story will be narrated in the briefing before and after every game, in the same order Grimbeorn discovered gradually the plot and the puzzling texture of the world he lives in.

Briefing

After the revealing words Heglestein told with his last breath, you, Rhobar, are still putting your thoughts in order. The Oligarchs, the four powerful characters that created the civil war, one of whom is the actual Emperor, although missing, are clearly your first objective.

Fortunately, the Brotherhood of the Stone Portal has got good spies in the major cities of the Empire, and the Oligarch of Marienburg, the merchant king Maximilian Tarn, is rapidly found. Sigmar favors you, and your spies discover that he will leave the city soon, for the first time in ten years, for an unknown destination on the Grey Mountains. This is a perfect opportunity to strike...

Empire vs Dogs of War. Warbands, 500 pts

The armies

The good ones

Empire Warband - 500 pts

Rhobar's Warband is a mixture of small, dynamic units and a big central block of Spearmen. Covered in the ruins behind the Hero stand some Crossbowmen, and two units of three Pistoliers are ready to outflank the enemy.

The bad ones

Dogs of War Warband - 500 pts

The mercenary little army was put together with the purpose of escort Max Tarn in his trip to the Grey Mountains. There are some Halberdiers, six Crossbowmen, two Ogre Bodyguards (the Trolls on the battlefield), some Duellists armed with pistols and a few mercenary Knights. In the centre of the convoy there's a carriage with the merchant king secured.

The game

In these pics you can see the starting deployment

In the end, Rhobar's Spearmen stopped the mercenaries from advancing, and the long turn around the house needed by the Knights to reach the enemy resulted fatal

The story

Maximilian Tarn, the merchant king, lays at your feet like the dirty worms you think he is. You're aware that the bleeding man in front of you is the one who created the world you live in: a world of war, brother against brother. And you have no intention to let him live another day.

You easily force him to tell you where he was going: to the burial place of Magnus, one of the Adventurers that years ago killed the Lady of Lubrecht, one of the Oligarchs. This is where you want to go to find something more about these Adventurers and their role in the Civil War.
